UK - London 24in24 - A girl a dolphin and a bridge_mono_5006447

Taken during the recent 'London 24in24' event, albeit whilst I went off-piste in the afternoon for a few hours. Despite being mid-Summers day the sky was overcast and grey so I opted for a moody monochrome treatment for this shot of the David Wynne 'Girl and a dolphin' sculpture adjacent to Tower Bridge.

Unfortunately for the first time ever I had to leave just over twelve hours into the 24hr event but a big thanks to Will Cheung (and Annie) for organising it and fingers crossed we'll get to do it all again next Summer.

From artsy.net, "Three years later, a larger version was installed in London on the north bank of the Thames near Tower Bridge and became one of the capital's most recognized and best-loved sculptures along with Wynne's Boy with a Dolphin (1975), which is to be found beside the Albert Bridge in Chelsea. David Wynne was a self-taught sculptor who initially studied zoology at Cambridge. As author David Elliott noted in his book, 'Boy with a Dolphin : The Life and Work of David Wynne', "His love of drawing animals and birds was all-consuming. He remembers constantly observing what he saw around him, seized with a growing conviction that his future life's work would somehow be involved with the natural world" . The artist was meticulous with his practice, always working from life to study the people, animals and birds he portrayed. To capture the experience of swimming with a dolphin he spent hours under water watching and interacting with the animals in both California, and the Dolphinarium in London."
