France - The Riviera - Antibes - The Nomad 09_DSC9342

A photo of the striking 'Nomad' sculpture by Jaume Plensa, situated at the end of the Bastion St-Jaume on the Antibes harbourfront.

The children climbing on the sculpture give some indication of the scale. Come to think of it isn't it great to see a sculpture that doesn't have signs saying 'keep off' / 'Do no touch'.

Google translated from the www.antibes-juanlespins.com/culture/bastion-st-jaume website, "In 2007, La Grande Nomade d'Antibes was presented here as part of the temporary exhibition organized by the Picasso Museum and dedicated to the artist, Jaume Plensa. In 2010, the monumental sculpture returns as the permanent invitation to a journey in the sculpture whose space - made of emptiness and silence - beyond that of the material which constitutes it, opens and unfolds around she, gigantic figurehead of the bastion.

It was acquired by the City of Antibes with the participation of the State, the Regional Acquisition Fund for Museums (Ministry of Culture and Communication), the Association of Friends of the Picasso Museum, the Joint Stock Company of Port Vauban, and the International Yacht Club of Antibes."
