Netherlands - Rotterdam - Central Library 01_DSC8816

I'd seen photos of the Rotterdam Central Library online before I went which is just as well Libraries aren't the most obvious tourist destinations. I didn't have long to explore as I got there just before closing but I did ride to the top of the escalators to get this shot looking down.

From the Rotterdam Tourist Information website : "Rotterdam’s Central Library is in the Laurenskwartier district in the city centre. In 1983, the library moved into a modern building on the Hoogstraat road. It is a striking construction with steel tubing running from the roof down the glass frontage. It was designed by the Van den Broek and Bakema architectural practice and is often compared to the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

The library’s total surface area is 24,000 square metres and makes it one of the largest libraries in the Netherlands. It has 12 rooms, each with its own character. These spaces can be used to stage congresses, events or meetings."
