More on Tour with W.C.R.C. 57s at Masbrough - 9482/88
Hadn't begun as a day of challenging light, quite the reverse, with significant electrical storms around 3am which resulted in a zapped BT hub and no internet. This took me most of the day to sort out, with some BT tech. support, but eventually substitution of a backup unit in the form of a spare resulted in connection again; the BT Hub is having to be replaced and, apparently, it was a common fault last night!! This all meant a bit of a picture backlog but today Friday's and yesterday's pictures could be up-loaded, amongst other stuff of course, and these are the last two. Having had misty, cool weather from early on but clearing as the camera approached Masbrough, by the time Saturday's WCRC tour/day out arrived, the sun was just about full on once more. Further, with Network Rail having a Line Possession of the Midland Main Line north of here at Thurnscoe, meant that there were few freights through, though 3 diverted oils trains (due to a derailment earlier in the week at Langworth near Lincoln) actually meant these trains came through here later in the afternoon as they took the turn-out east at Swinton, heading for Doncaster, not Leeds. Here, a well turned out WCRC class 57, 57305, 'Northern Belle' named 'Northern Princess', rattles north along the old platform 2 down goods line heading for the Swinton turn-out east and through Doncaster to York. This is the 1Z60 'day-out jolly' for the folk in Coventry, taking 4 hours hours having started out at 08:06 this morning they will arrive, 12:12, just about on time. From then, the worthies will have around 5 hours before having to board the return service, back to Coventry, as it were!, at 17:30, arriving 22:11; the 1Z61 WCRC working. There is still a deal of material lying around the old station site and lightweight 'plant', some of which was in the triangle of space between the Old Road and Midland Main line under the bridge in the background. More modern traction passes along south on the Midland lines into Sheffield in the form of a Cross Country Trains class 222, Voyager on the 1086, Newcastle to Southampton Central service a six hour service just about making 'right-time' all the way.
