Traction movements at Thornhill in blazing July Sun - 9472+74

WCRC class 57s, 57313, 'Northern Belle', ex 'Tracy Island', the others in the 'set were - '57301 Scott Tracy, 57302 Virgil Tracy, 57303 Alan Tracy, 57304 Gordon Tracy, 57305 John Tracy, 57306 Jeff Tracy, 57307 Lady Penelope, 57308 Tin Tin, 57309 Brains, 57310 Kyrano, 57311 Parker, 57312 The Hood, 57315 The Mole & lastly, 57316 FAB1'. As can be seen from the second picture on the right, 57314, ex-'Firefly' is on the back of the long haul, 10 hour tours, 'coast-to-coast' as it were, from Saltburn on the north-east coast east of Middlesbrough to Weston-super-Mare on the north Somerset coast, west of Bristol. Saltburn connects the line which ran from Middlesbrough along the north -east coast through Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and on to Scarborough; most of the line closed in the late 50s and early 60s but there is still a short stub left which takes freight traffic to and from both the B.S.C. steelworks at Skinningrove and the mines on the coast at Boulby, the latter being where potash is produced. On a day like this, the passengers presumably have the windows open and are being offered plenty of cold drinks .. at the bar... This is the West Coast Railway Company's 1Z22 tour from Saltburn to Weston-Super-Mare; they will be returning after a weekend at the coast, on Monday passing through here at around 17:30, the 1Z25 working) after that the locos and coaching stock will return to Carnforth Steamtown at 20:15, arriving at 01:30 the next day( the 5Z25, ECS working).
