Nordic light in Stockholm
In the summertime the nordic region enjoys quite special lightingconditions. The days get longer and longer but exactly what thats means depends on where in the region you are and at which time. If you are above the artic circle you get midnight sun in which the sun never goes down. Further south you get sunsets and colorsful skies lasting for hours followed by blue "hours" lating much longer than that. After that it depends how far south and how close you are to the summer solstice if the sky goes dark at all or if you get a blueish sky dotted with stars until sunrise again...
The special ligh both during the days and nights in the region inspired a lot of landscape painters in the 190th and 20th century in a school that is often refered to as Scandinavian or Nordic light.
This shot was taken half past midnight right in front of the royal castle in Stockholm. On the right across the water is Grand hotel, the poshest hotel in town, and to the far right is the national museum. The foreground is made up of an excursion boat.
You should really watch this Large On Black since that brings out a lot more detail. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background and a lot of the finer details are lost in this small format.
