Had a chance to play with a Sony R1 for a very short time. I hate the EVF and LCD as it is really slow and dark, in fact the Canon S2is' EVF and LCD is faster than the R1, but the R1 produces great image quality. Too bad they didn't put an optical viewfinder in it.
