Luzern CH - Museggmauer und Dächliturm

It is the medieval landmark of Lucerne and was built in the 13th century as a city fortification. Originally, an inner and outer ring secured the city from enemy attacks.

The Museggmauer is still 870 m long, about 9 m high and 1.5 m wide. This makes it the longest city wall preserved on one piece throughout Switzerland.

From the past 30 towers are preserved 9: Nölliturm, Männliturm, Luegisland, Wachtturm, Zytturm, Schirmerturm, Pulverturm, Allenwindenturm und Dächliturm. They offer an ideal habitat for a variety of animal species and plants.

owever, the roof structure of the Dächliturms was not built until spring 1449 at the earliest. It was originally - like other towers of the Musegg fortification - a shell tower (like the Luegislandturm still today). In 1728 the tower shell was closed by a brick south facade. A tower room was built under the pyramid roof. The interior of the tower will not be extended until 1731 at the earliest.

With a height of 27.35 m it is the smallest tower of the Musegg Wall and measures in the base area 5.4 m x 7.3 m. The side walls are 1.4 m thick, the later south wall measures 0.6 m.
