Murg CH - Murgtal

The village was first mentioned as Murga in 1045 and belonged to the Austrian rule of Windegg before 1438, then to the Landvogtei Gaster. The monastery of Schänis was under the splendid and ecclesiastical authority. The Genosssame Murg is tangible in the 16th century, 1502 with a Bannholz letter, 1532 with an Allmendbrief and an Alpine order. In 1803, Murg joined the political community of Quarten.

The Murg Valley in the canton of St. Gallen is located in the Glarner Alps south of the Walensee and can be reached from Murg.

The valley is flowed through by the Murgbach, which flows into the Walensee. In the upper part of the valley it passes through the three Murg lakes. The Murg Valley has several moorland, marsh and flood areas. An area of 460 hectares is also excluded as an Arven reserve.
