Middelburg NL - Markt en Stadhuis fontein
You can find this special work of art on the Markt, the square in front of the beautiful, Gothic town hall (Stadhuis) of the Dutch provincial town of Middelburg. To the delight of bystanders and passers-by, it is secretly a hidden fountain.
Whoever takes a seat on one of the chairs - invited to do so by two mysterious peepholes and the text "Look in the tunnel and you will see the city's sewage system from the 8th century" - unconsciously activates a mechanism that starts to spray water. The plinth in the center of the artwork contains a beautiful bronze scene on top, which indicates what the square and the town hall look like from above.
