The Gastown Steam Clock, Vancouver
The (in)famous tourist ghetto Gastown files under "one of those places you need to go if you´re ever in Vancouver just for the sake of having done so". Since I lack character and strength enough to resist these things I always go. The famous steam clock may lock like an antique out of some steampunk novel but was actually built as late as 1977 and paid for by the local merchants as a way to lure in tourists to the back then newly renovated Gastown area.
It worked.
Today tourists flock to this area for a quick glance at the clock that omits a cloud of steam every fifteen minutes while whistles play the distinct Westminister Quarters.
