"Pool"
After a long hard day among the mighty temples of Bagan it was nice to head back to the Kumudara Hotel and hit the pool. I guess that I could lie and tell you that it was all nice and warm and yadayadayada but actually the salt water (!) pool was freezing cold. Still, the surroundings made it worth it.
Speaking of the Kumudara Hotel, if you´re ever in Bagan this is most likely your best option. A bit out of the way in New Bagan it features big, clean, beautiful rooms at a very modest price. As a bonus it is also privately run since 1996 and even though you´ll never escape the ten-or-so percent tax that goes straight into the pockets of the regime it´s good to know that you are not supporting the grotesque palaces built for package tourists that have popped up in the middle of Old Bagan.
These are one of the many reasons why Bagan actually is not considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Others involve the regimes sloppy repairs of some of the payas and their awful decisions to build a golf course and a high rise watch tower in the middle of these beautiful lands.
