Hippodrome Of Ashgabat
Horses have a special place in the hearts of the Turkmen. Everywhere you can see these creatures in the form and shape of monuments and decorations. Breeding horses have since the Parthian empire started doing it around 3rd century BC been a speciality of the country, most famously resulting in the Akhal Tekin type of horse.
At first I tried to capture some of the action that everyone was there for. I quickly realised that my measly 24-70 mm zoom never would be able to capture anything of use. I turned around and quickly understood that what was really interesting here was the people up on the bleachers, yelling their hearts out as soon as the races begun. I walked down to the fence pretending to be interested in the race and then quickly turned around ans snapped some shots of the wild crowd as son as the winner horse made crossed the finish line. I´m very happy with the result.
