"Waving history good bye"

In 1998 the Arch Of Neutrality was erected in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. This huge, 75 metres tall, tripod landmark featured a golden statue of Türkmenbaşy on top. Not only was it golden, it turned with the sun during the day so that the sun always would hit the face of the dictator. Say what you will about your local dude in charge, but I bet that he or she haven´t had the balls to erect anything like it to this date.

This year the new president finally got his will through and the destruction of the monument was taking place during my visit. To please nostalgic supporters a new Arch of Neutrality is being planned out in the suburbs and according to the pictures I swiftly observed at the site of the new monument it will look similar to the old one.
