"Big Casino"

I'd been to Las Vegas before and if I'm not mistaken it was my very first trans-Atlantic trip as a young correspondent (so you can all guess how well that went). Not being much of a party animal or a gambler I was primarily looking for a conveniently located bed and I chose to stay at the Fiesta Rancho - one of the older establishments, located in the less-frequented northern parts of Las Vegas. Checking out reviews beforehand on the internet didn't really leave me with great expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. My room was clean, internet was included and after a quick shower I made my way down to the floor to check out the casino. Had some food at the crazy cheap buffet (once again, this was wasn't too bad at all) and then hit the video poker slot machines for the rest of the evening.

The clientele was far from the glitter queens and kings around the Strip. These were ordinary people who probably lived close by and who came out to sink a few dollars down the throat of their local casino. And that somehow made me like the place even more. I had a few drinks and then called it a night.
