"The Captain"

Being a huge fan of both SAS and airplanes in general (and like a lot of people nurturing a slowly dying dream of becoming a pilot myself) I couldn´t resist talking a bit to the captain of my flight, who stretched his legs in the cabin by the end of the flight to Copenhagen.

Gullach Thosgaard turned out to be one of the funniest chaps I´ve met in quite a while. While telling me his story he constantly joked and when the purcer of the flight passed us, telling him that it might be a good idea to get back into the cockpit to prepare for the imminent landing he immediately retorted, tongue in cheek:

"No worries, we land when I´m ready."

Having joined the airline in 1986 he told me that he currently is the oldest captain on their payroll. Starting out on the DC-9 he then moved on to pilot the Boeing 767 before advancing further when SAS purchased a set of Airbus 340/330´s - currently the biggest models of their fleet.

After a chat that included him laying out the differences of flying Boeing and Airbus aircraft, technical advancements throughout his career and the prettiest route when approaching or departing Narita I asked him if we could take a picture together. He happily agreed. Asking Gullach where we should take the photo without jamming the aisle he chuckled:

"Don´t worry about that. This is my plane. I´m never in the way of anyone."

What a dude!

Also, I look like a total douche wearing sweatpants.
