There goes the sun, and I say its alright

EXPLORE #56 1/08/2009

There goes the sun, but do you really know what is a sunset? I thought I did and then I went to the desert. Silence, wind and a star called sun (with 330000 times the mass of the Earth) intersecting the horizont line at a distance of about 149600000 km (the light needs 8 minutes to travel from there to us). If you have the chance, visit the desert and enjoy one of the most beautiful astronomical events that we have the joy to celebrate every day. The image shows a sunset over the Erg d'Admer dune field. The hills are not mountains but 100 to 300 m high dunes!

PD Did you ever thought about it? When you see the sunset, the sun might be already completely down. A visual trick due to the finite speed of light.
