Ditching the Brook

We live on Immenbachstrasse. Our street's name is from a little local brook (Bach).

The word "Immen" has something to do with bees or beekeeping.

It is actually a tributary of the River Rhine! πŸ˜‹

See below.

The brook's source is in some woods about 1km uphill from our street.

From there, it runs through a bit of pasture and then through a final tiny patch of woods.

At that point, it is diverted into the ditch which carries it down our street.

From there, the Immenbach disappears underground and reappears, several times.

Finally, on the other side of our village, it empties into the River Wiese

(source in the German Black Forest).

In downtown Basel, the Wiese empties into the Rhine.

So...some of the water in our Immenbach may make the long journey

north and west, and empty into the North Sea in the Netherlands.

The Immenbach illustrates how everything is interconnected here on Earth.

It's an endemic problem when you live on a round object.
