DDR R.I.P. 1949-1990
DDR = Deutsche Demokratische Republik (In English GDR = German Democratic Republic). Also known as East Germany, the DDR was what is now the eastern third of present-day Germany.
The DDR ID sticker in the photo is on the back of a more than decrepit Trabant. The "Trabbi" was the DDR's iconic, sole, home-produced automobile. It was a truly peculiar creation; e.g. the body panels you see were not metal. They were plastic, reinforced with cotton waste. For details, see:
This particular "Trabbi" is part of an incredible array of accumulated objects at the Kreiterhof:
The Kreiterhof (see location below) is an amazing, amusing 200+ year-old rural establishment. Between Easter and late December, you can go there for a casual indoor or outdoor lunch or dinner. Before or after, you can wander around a mind-boggling accumulation of objects, materials and devices that are in "indefinite long-term outdoor-storage." They are waiting to be used...for something...sometime. I recommend the Kreiterhof to one and all; especially photographers.
Location: Kreiterhof, near Village of Nebenau, District of Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg DE.
In my album: Dan's Miscellany.
