HAPPY FENCED FRIDAY !!
This is a "mini-panorama" closeup of a section of an elegant, wrought-iron porch fence.
"Metallica" can refer to many things, including the heavy metal rock band, Metallica, formed in the 1980s and still going strong.
But my favorite connection for this fence is the 1556 (!!) text in Latin "De Re Metallica." Its author was German mining and metallurgy expert Georg Bauer (a.k.a. Georgius Agricola). It was THE authoritative text for the next ca 180 years.
An odd historic detail: De Re Metallica was first translated into English in 1912 by mining engineer Herbert Hoover and Lou Henry Hoover, his geologist-latinist wife.
Yes, he was later the president of the United States.
