Wrapping It Up

There is sinister beauty in these vines that wrap themselves around trees. They are the slow, plant-world anacondas of our local woods. It takes years for them to do their wrapping. Some, like this one, slowly grow larger and larger in girth, as their roots out-compete those of the tree for water and nutrients. Also, their leaves reach to the canopy and compete for sun with those of the tree. This particular vine is well on its way to winning the struggle.

Location: Northern-most forested area within Riehen BS Switzerland.

In my album: Dan's Miscellany.
