Take A Chance

Inspired by an occurrence on the evening of November 4th, 2023.

 

There's that old saying about making a wish upon sighting a "shooting star." Well, I was out driving in the wee hours of the night after taking a long walk. A cold night, but not unexpected at this time of year in this part of the country. A faint hint of Aurora in the sky, offset by metropolitan light pollution. As I was heading out of town, a rather bright meteor filled up the sky as it plummeted to Earth. I watched as it disintegrated in the atmosphere above me and I thought, "well, what's the worst that could happen?"

 

So, I took a chance and made a wish.

 

I had actually forgotten about it until the following evening. It hit me upside the head. My wish had come true in the truest of senses, sixteen hours after taking that chance.

 

Serendipitous? Perhaps. But, meaningful, nonetheless.

 

There's a sense of comfort, relief, a bit of peace. And, at the end of the day, that's all I can really ask for.
