Farestart Restaurant - Seattle, Washington

"Farestart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Over the past 20 years, FareStart has provided opportunities for nearly 6,000 people to transform their lives, while also serving over 5 million meals to disadvantaged men, women, and children."

I snuck in just before their lunch time cut off and it was pretty busy; groups and couples were everywhere. Then there was me settling down to eat my Forever Alone Burger. It was good. I'm not sure if I have ever had dining experience that felt like I was contributing to a good cause--tasting some of my mom's experimental meals over the years definitely does not count--but in this case it sort of felt that way. I am not naive or hipster enough to believe that I actually helped someone out, but I left the restaurant with a smile on my face after a great experience with the program. The service was fast and friendly and really, how can you not feel great about something that is helping change lives everyday?

If you're ever in Seattle, I highly suggest you include Farestart in your itinerary.
