Worn, torn and head-less

This is the top of one of the entrances to the part of Villa Borghese in Rome that is known as Giardino del Lago (the part of the park that is actually closed at night).

The gate was finished in 1827 and designed by Luigi Canina. It is topped by a sculpture of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus, flanked by two Parthian prisoners of war. The gate is known as either Arco di Settimio Severo (due to the statues) or Arco Romano (the Roman arch)
