First attempt at street photography - Dam Square Amsterdam
Location: Dam square Amsterdam, tourist central
Reason: a couple (!) of pushes.
This shot is one of my first attempts answer to the pushes in the Get Pushed group by Bella Blue Star and Nikkonsnapper who in separate challenges pushed me in a similar way to do sreet portraits in the rolling challenge and round 15 respectively.
They were right in not seeing any street photography in my stream. It is something I find hard to do. I have had a view confrontations, close to getting physical in a case where I shot an overview with an SLR that attracted to much attention.
So here I went to face my fears :-) Most of the shots I had were like this one, candid shots of people half turned away or busy taking their own pictures, watching street performers (like the group of tourists to the right).
As I was told to get in close and the fact that this is not quite a portrait I was not quite happy to call it quits and went on ... and started shooting pictures after asking. But did quite some walking in between the shots, coming back to the same site a few times seeing new people hanging around.
My final result is a series of shots of people that I asked.
I still think I need to get closer to the point that I can get a head shot in at 50mm lens distance. However I will need to do a lot more practice to get so comfortable in entering people's personal space and talking to total strangers. Not there yet...
Camera Canon PowerShot G12
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/4.0
Focal Length 6.1 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias -2/3 EV
