DIY Hydroseeding
Columbia Gas worked their ass off about 2 months ago to get our heat back on when their pipes failed. However, their pipefitting skills were much greater than their landscaping.
I'm trying to get the grass back in a patch of about 30 sq. ft. I read seeding requires about 6 grass seeds per sq. inch. I estimated a grass seed to be approximately 2 mg (based on the weight of 1,000 - don't ask). This comes out to about 27 grams of seed for my patch. When seeding a new patch, there's a wasteful tedious routine of watering excessively to get the weeds to take.
So, with some polyacrylamide crystals (the stuff in diapers), I'm going to mix it with the grass seed, add water and leave the hydrated seeds embedded in the hydrogel to sprout in the sun. Then, if this works, I'll spead it on my patch of land. The hydrogel is inert in the soil. And the hydrated gel should provide a means for the sprouted seed to bind to the soil. Or, so, that's the plan.
Keep you posted.
Recipe for 30 sq. ft. = grass seed 27 g + polyacrylamide gel 40 g + 1 L water, mix, let sit in sun, wait.
