New Hampshire’s Vanderbilt.
The story of this man absolutely captivated me in a book called, “King of the Ale-Makers”, published by a local Portsmouth writer in 1955 I believe.
It is a fascinating story of a man who left an indelible mark on Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Ultimately, America. In telling the tale of a progression from humble beginnings to extraordinary success, the writer also gives a vibrant and fascinating history of a city growing from hay-markets and an growing seaport, to an upper-class destination for Boston and New York.
