Tin-man.

Karin & I wanted a break before our descent of Madison on Sunday, so we stopped at the hut to rest and people watch. It was about 4:00 pm on the mountain and people were starting to gather at the building for a meal and some rest.

Immediately, I was approached by this very kind gentleman and asked if there was room for two on the step where I sat. "Of course!" I said.

We proceeded to talk for the next hour about his hike of the Appalachian Trail and his friends; where he was from; what shoes were good and finally... the most amazing story of how he got his name and more-so, how he came to be hiking the AT.

Turns out, they call him Tin-man on the trail, because like the Wizard Of Oz character, he needed a heart- and he got one!

He had a heart transplant several years ago and was living his life with complete vigor and appreciation.

His story touched my heart and gave me so much inspiration and food for thought for my hike back down....
