At 1.5 mile long (2.5km) the Forth Railway Bridge, was the world’s first major steel bridge, with its gigantic girder spans of 1710 ft (521m) it ranks as one of the great feats of Victorian civilization. It was begun in 1883 and formally completed on 4 March 1890.
