Masterton - 150 years 2004
Our town celebrated its 150th anniversary this year. My husband's great-great-great-grandfather, Alexander McKenzie, and his family came to the fledgling town in 1855. They were originally from Urray, Ross-shire, Scotland, and had emigrated first (in 1852) to Melbourne, Australia, before heading "across the ditch" to try their luck in New Zealand, where Alexander's younger brother John had settled 2 years or so earlier.
So, for our family, Masterton really is "our heritage - our future".
