World's first radio station
In 1909, voice transmissions sent from the Herrold College of Wireless and Engineering in San Jose, California, qualified their broadcaster, Charles “Doc” Herrold as a true pioneer in radio communication. His first disk jockey was his wife, Sybil. Herrold took requests during his weekly “Little Ham Program,” gave out weekly prizes to listeners and was the first to consider radio advertising. Today the station he founded is known as KCBS, San Francisco.
