White-Tailed Antelope Squirrel During Visit to Joshua Tree National Park (California) - July 31, 2024 - 213/2024 50/P365Year17 5894/P365all-time – (July 31, 2024)

In Palm Springs for the 2024 Barbie Convention. I spent the morning on Wednesday July 31st at a birdwalking event at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. It is only around 25 minutes to Joshua Tree, so despite the heat, I decided to visit. So glad I did. What an amazing park. I did a somewhat abbreviated visit, but the park rangers helped with my route. It is a park that can be enjoyed driving from area to area. I would get out and walk around for no more than 10-15 minutes before heading back to the car. I spent more time at Keys View where I found this White-Tailed Antelope Squirrel. This is a ground squirrel and I saw a similar one in Phoenix a few years ago. So excited to see a new type of squirrel. Despite the bees at Keys View, I hung around for a while hoping the squirrel would come back. Alas, just a few pictures!I would love to go again when it is less hot. Pictures from my visit to this amazing park.

Joshua Tree would

have been my first stop had I

knew who I'd find there.
