9/366/4026 (June 20, 2019) - Central Park Squirrel Census Report & Map Presentation (Explorers Club - New York City - June 20th, 2019)

I was in NYC for the LEPE 2019 Meeting and decided to skip the last evening's event and instead go to the reveal of the 2018 Central Park Squirrel Census. This took place on Thursday June 20th, 2019 at the Explorers Club (46 East 70th Street, New York City). Even though I did not participate in the count, I followed it and was thrilled to be able to attend the big reveal. This is the description of the event: "Join us for a figurative rodeo of engaging squirrel and park appreciation — the grand-data finale of the once-in-a-lifetime survey of Central Park and its squirrels. The main event: revealing the Squirrel Abundance Number of Central Park (and who in the audience guessed closest). It’ll be served with some thrilling spoonfuls of education, science, park aural pleasures, and a very serious map and chart explanation, as well as good old-fashioned storytelling, and just the right amount of singing." Spoiler alert, they estimated that there are 2373 squirrels in Central Park. This was a perfect way to end my trip to New York City and a great Squirrel Tourism bucket list item. Kudos to all the people who pulled this off. Taken at the Explorers Club on East 70th Street on Thursday June 20th, 2019.
