Visit to McDowell Sonoran Preserve (Scottsdale, Arizona) - July 12, 2018
Visit to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale, Arizona on the morning of Thursday July 12th. From the City of Scottsdale site, "The Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a large, permanently protected, sustainable desert habitat that includes an interconnected network of non-motorized, multi-use trails (hike/bike/horse) accessed from multiple trailhead locations." I went to the Gateway Area and walked on a few of the trails near the trailhead. These included the Saguaro Trail, the Saguaro Loop Trail, and the Bajada Nature Trail. The trailhead is located at 18333 N. Thompson Peak Rd, Scottsdale, AZ, 85255. When facing the mountains to the east, you could be anywhere in the desert. But when you look west, it is clear you are close to civilization. Great preserve!
