taming wild things…

Transmitted light.

Paper: Canson Marker, 5x7".

Process: Talbot

Exposed June 20th, 2012 ca 08.30, direct sun on a sunny early morning with veiled skies

Exposure time: 15 sec f/8

I am slowly taming some of the wild things… Following advice I dramatically cut down on exposure times: down to 15 seconds now… This is almost instant photography!

Fogging is better, but not completely controlled. I am now wondering whether this really isn't just a too hot environment to work in. If I were to develop film (and that is something I *know* how to do) I would have to take special measures to avoid it fogging - why should calotypes be any different?

The other thing that puzzles me is the brushwork - I thought I knew how to brush: check out all my recent calotypes and paper work! The Pelegry calotypes were brushed. The bichro-silver paper was brushed. Heck, even my platinum work is all brushed! So what exactly went wrong here? Any brushing I have done was done leaving an even wet mark, and the next brush stroke was well overlapping the previous one - so that in the end I'd have an (apparently?) evenly wet surface. Just like all my other work… But here it looks almost as if I was passing a nearly dry cotton wad in a very sloppy way?! Hmmm…
