The American Bombe

The Bombe was a Polish-devised electro-mechanical device for working out Enigma settings. We couldn't produce the hardware fast enough so the Americans tooled up and built them faster over there.

 

The key bit here is the last paragraph. This is distributed processing. And before the first computer (Colossus) was built. That's a bit like The Cloud isn't it?
