Canterbury Cathedral

In his book 'England's Cathedrals', Simon Jenkins gives Canterbury Cathedral 5 stars (out of 5). It is by no means the largest Cathedral in the UK, in fact it comes in at a lowly 6th place. But if you take into account its history, being the seat of power for the Church of England, the murder of one Mr Beckett in 1170 and it being one of the oldest Christian sites in the country, then these things help it's rankings no doubt. The site was founded in 597 and the Cathedral was largely rebuilt around 1070. Over the centuries it has been expanded and rebuilt in various ways, most recently as 1834.

It certainly is a lot more impressive than what I remember it when I last visited as a child. But then I might have been distracted as this was the place my parents lost me, (or did I lose them?) leading to a brief police search in the city centre before I was found back at the car. (Thinking this might be a good place to go to.)
