John W. Cook Hall of Illinois State University (Normal, Illinois)

Located at 200 South University Street, this Romanesque Revival structure was built in 1896. George H. Miller was its architect, and in 1986 the edifice was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the five so called Altgeld's castles, which were built in similar style on the campuses of five of Illinois' public institutions.

 

Illinois State University (ISU) is a public research university in Normal, Illinois. It was founded in 1857 as the Illinois State Normal University and is the oldest public university in Illinois. The university emphasizes teaching and is recognized as one of the top ten largest producers of teachers in the U.S. according to the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.
