Old Dakota Territory Capitol Replica (Yankton, South Dakota)
This structure is a replica of the 1862 Dakota Territorial Capitol that once served until 1883, when the Dakota Territory relocated its legislature to Bismarck (today the capital of the State of North Dakota). The original modest two-story, wood-frame structure was dismantled in 1886, and almost 100 years later in 1988 was rebuilt in Riverside Park by the Yankton Sertoma Club.
Located on the banks of the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota, the town of Yankton functions as a regional hub and the county seat of Yankton County. It was originally the capital of the Dakota Territory.
