Me, my wife and my 10 month old daughter fell epically ill with some crazy stomach flu late sunday night. All of monday, we just slept and cried like little babies. I ended up taking a bath monday night and falling asleep in the tub. Don't worry, I'm too big (or the tub is too small) for me to have gone under, but when I awoke, the water was luke warm and an hour had passed.
When getting out, I felt that this was my one chance to get my 365 shot before nausea set back in. I got two shots off of my fingers. The first was out of focus. The second captured my experience of the day. It wasn't until two days later that I imported the photos to see this.
When you're down and out, just photograph yourself. Your fragility, your vulnerability, your pain is beautiful art. There is something more human in this photo than of any one I've ever taken while smiling.
It's only a few days difference from health to pure and unforgiving weakness, so take every chance to shoot all edges of the spectrum. We should see pain equally to how we see happiness. That is photography.
