Goosenecks, San Juan River

Originating in Colorado, the San Juan River drains approximately 24,000 square miles through Colorado, New Mexico and Utah before emptying into the Colorado River in Glen Canyon, after its journey of 383 miles.

Eroding through sandstone, siltstone and shale of the Colorado Plateau the river has carved deep canyons, including these near Bluff, Utah. Through the Goosenecks area the river lies roughly 1500 feet below the rim. The river flows over six miles to cover a straight-line distance of only 1.5 miles.
