Making Progress
Karen near the top of Avalanche Peak, with Crow Creek Pass off to the left in the clouds.
We started this hike before daylight to avoid the heat of the day. My only concern for the hike was grizzly bears lurking somewhere in the darkness as we traveled. Never saw one or any sign of one, but this is his territory and we were trespassing.
This is a wonderful hike that is just strenuous enough to get the lungs and legs working well but not overwhelming. The starting elevation is 8,466' and the summit is 10,566'; 2100' gain in just 2.1 miles. The difficulty lies in the elevation for us flatlanders who live at sea level.
From the summit the views are endless and truly rewarding.
