Antebellum Laments
Krystal, in American Civil War era mourning vestments.
Having mixed feelings about this image as it correlates to the "Gone With the Wind" feeling about the American South before the Civil War, a land of cavaliers and cotton, of ladies and plantation mansions. In fact Mississippi's Governor Phil Bryant just proclaimed April 2016 as "Confederate Heritage Month".
The problem is that such memories dismiss from mind over three million slaves, not even considered human beings but as property to use and dispose of as one would a pig or a horse. Even as recently as a January 2016 poll, The New York Times found that nearly 20% of Trump supporters in the South Carolina Republican Primary do not approve of freeing the slaves in the American Civil War.
Model: Krystal Smith, who conceived and set up the entire image.
