Apple and Pear Butter
bramley cooking apples and seventeen small pears, all flavoured with cinnamon and cloves, cooked on a low setting in the slow cooker for 24 hours. after a few hours removed lid and stirred with the handblender, replaced lid, when cooked spooned into the sterilised jars and placed in the fridge
it was an experiment. i tried to make pear butter but after a few hours i tasted the mixture. it was inedible. too sweet. i had added too much sugar! luckily rather than bin it i had some unsweetened bramley cooking apple cooking on the stove and poured some of the unsweetened bramley cooking apple into the slow cooker, mixing with the pears until i was happy with the taste. the consistency is thick but not as thick as the plum butter. it'll do
to be used as topping on yoghurt, custard, rice pudding, oats, side sauce for savoury meals ...
