Congress co-operation activities:over 1,000 local elected representatives involved

Strasbourg, France, 16 October 2017:The activities implemented by the Congress to strengthen local elected representatives’ institutional and leadership capacities were the focus for discussions during the meeting organised on 16 October 2017 with representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The participants highlighted the added value of the Congress and shared their ideas and needs in view of the future contributions to the local dimension in the Council of Europe Action Plans for the respective countries. It is, as underlined by Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress, this continuous dialogue and “close links with delegations and national associations that are a key ingredient to the success of Congress co-operation activities”.

The meeting is organised by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities within the thematic programme “Strengthening institutional frameworks for local governance”. This programme is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, through the Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) 2015-2017 for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
