U.S. Army National Guard Chaplain (Col.) Andy Meverden says farewell to a Guardsman as the Colorado National Guard sends off members of Special Operations Detachment-Korea (Airborne) for a deployment with a departure ceremony February 21, 2014 at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard, Denver, Colorado, 80230. SOD-K conducts special operations in support of U.S. Special Operations Command. The units function is to provide staff augmentation to Special Operations Command in respective staff sections. This is the third deployment for SOD-K since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit’s official federal recognition was on May 26, 2004. SOD-K personnel received numerous awards during previous mobilizations including the Purple Heart for the two unit members wounded in a rocket attack on June 25, 2004.
