Peeking under my hoverfly lagoons I can see quite a few of these and there will be far more that have crawled away from the lagoon to pupate rather than pupate under it. I have about 35 hoverfly lagoons in shady places around the house. I think I can see some larvae in some of them that must have over wintered as larvae rather than pupae - so maybe more pupae to come soon. The place will, I hope, be buzzing with drone flies late Spring and Summer!
