SOUTH CHINA SEA (July 24, 2013) Sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) prepare for underway replenishment as the ship pulls alongside the Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11) during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore 2013. More than 700 Sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT Singapore. U.S. Navy units participating include the Fitzgerald, the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1), the Washington Chambers, a U.S. Marine Corps platoon assigned to 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7 staff, serving as Commander, Task Force 73.1. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
