JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii (May 27, 2013) Master Chief Sonar Technician (Ret.) John Duggan hangs a wreath on a plaque at the USS Parche Submarine Park and Memorial, May 27. Submariners past and present honor those who have gone before in a Memorial Day service sponsored by the United States Submarine Veterans Association, Bowfin Base. Capt. James Childs, Commander Submarine Squadron One was the guest speaker for the service. The service included a special Lei presentation honoring the USS Growler (SS 215), USS Seawolf (SS 197) and the 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2572. On Memorial Day, submariners proudly honor those on "eternal patrol" and those whose lives were spent defending the nation beneath the sea.
