PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 17, 2020) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class Eric Augustine, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, observes an F/A-18F Super Hornet from the “Bounty Hunters” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 2, carrying Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper, as it lands on the flight deck of Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). During the visit, Esper toured the ship’s composite warfare commander spaces, receiving in-depth briefs on carrier strike group interoperability and naval power defense. Vinson is currently underway conducting flight deck certification (FDC) and carrier air traffic control center (CATCC) certification.
